Chapter Fourteen

Colin opened the door and handed the orb back to his grandma. She looked over at Braxas.

“We had some questions for her.” She looked at Braxas.

“It’s nice to see you again,” she said. The dragon nodded. “Did she tell you anything?” Colin shook his head, lying. “Sad, I thought she could help Bella.” She turned and left. Colin shut the door and turned to Braxas.

“We leave at midnight,” he said. Colin grabbed his bag as he watched the clock tick on to midnight. Braxas stood by his side, still in his human form.

“Can you transport us there, or should I fly us?” Colin opened the door.

“I think I can handle it,” he said, going out into the hall and down the stairs, walking as quietly as he could. Outside, he turned around and cast several new protection spells onto the house and then opened a portal. He turned to Braxas. “It’s time to save Bella,” he said, walking into the portal.

On the other side, Colin stopped and looked up at the mountain and pointed.

“There!” he signaled. Braxas nodded.

“I see it. It’s going to be a rough climb.” He huffed. Colin reached down into his bag and pulled out a small satchel.

“Who said anything about walking? Can’t you fly?” Braxas shifted and twisted until he was back into his dragon form. Colin opened the small satchel and threw up some glittering fairy dust. The two glowed a little and shrank down to fairy size. Braxas lowered his head, and Colin climbed upon him and said a few concealing spells to hide them. Soon, they rose into the air. Braxas circled the mountain a few times, looking at the opening.

“Looks clear,” he said, landing. Braxas shifted back into his human form, and they entered the cave. Colin led the way, being cautious with the cloak pulled tightly around them. The hall was lit by torches. He stopped, looking at the blue flames. “Take my hand, the flames have been enchanted to detect intruders,” Braxas growled and took his hand. Colin let his father’s spells fill his mind. He muttered a few extra protection spells, opened his eyes, and let go of Braxas’ hand. “We should be fine now.” He turned and walked down the hall and entered a large room. There, they paused to listen as witches and wizards sat around a table, plotting.

“We have to attack them now!” a witch yelled.

“How?” another one asked. “We don’t know where they are.”

The woman from the meadow stood up, saying, “Our memories have been tampered with. I’ve tried every spell I can find, but nothing has restored what has been taken. This boy is a threat.” She said, turning to the others, “With the fairy captured, we don’t know what their plans are. I bet they are trying everything to break my spell.” She sat down, smiling as she thumbed a small vial around her neck. “That spell was my mother’s best.” She laughed. “Our next move has to be precise. We must find the sword.
